Butterfly Houses

Butterfly houses are parts of Flower Garden, that will give your garden a true sense of wonder by attracting butterflies and giving them a place to nest.

Placing a butterfly house near a nectar source, namely your beautiful flower garden is the perfect way to attract a host of different butterfly species. These simple boxes are often painted with flower like patterns to further attract its would-be tenants.

Butterfly houses are different than bird houses, in that they are mostly used later in the season. It is generally recommended that tree bark or another substance is used inside as cover. This heightens its appeal as a place for butterflies to hibernate for the winter and, in turn, fill your garden the following year.

There are many reasons why people decide to start butterfly gardening. Some people only like to look at the butterflies, while others like to take pictures as well. Others try to help the butterfly population by planting native plants which rare or threatened butterflies feed on. Many butterflies are becoming less abundant as a result of habitat destruction and fragmentation, and they do not feed on the plants regularly found on gardens. Others may also help in tagging monarch butterflies, which helps scientists monitor the monarch population and their migratory routes.
